Miss Ana
Violin Teacher/Owner
In the year of 2016, the Lord graciously opened the door for me to begin working my dream job of sharing this love of violin with others. All these years - and the addition of two instruments later (viola and cello), I can’t think of anything else that would bless and bring me such joy each day. I love working with students of all ages and abilities, and aim to make each aspect of development and advancement as clear and concise as possible. My favorite word in the classroom is "aha!" - exclaimed at that moment when the lightbulb goes off, and it all comes together. Together, we'll work to add that word to our daily vocabulary!
The founder of the Suzuki Violin Program, Shinichi Suzuki, stated that it is necessary to be concerned about the importance of educating a really beautiful human spirit.
My goal in educating musical talent is not just simply for you or your child to become a well versed musician, but to instill a deep passion - a strong sensitivity and love for beauty.
We will use our instrument as a mode to encourage that passion.
The Suzuki method recognizes that the development of that passion is much like learning how to speak a language. We are not born with the ability to speak, rather from infancy, we have picked it up at the level in which our inquisitive and enthusiastic minds absorb information.
Language is developed through exposure.
We hear it, imitate it, understand it, read it, and then take it to higher levels.
In the same way that we have developed language skills, we will develop musical skills.
This is the process through which I teach.
Together, we will nurture a lifestyle of learning. Along with many other abilities, within the first year of lessons you'll be taught: to play with clear tone, fingering and bowing techniques, how to play by ear, how to memorize pieces of music, how to identify notes on the staff, how to read the music, an understanding of the basics of music theory, rhythms, and how to play several songs on your instrument.

Miss Alayia
Violin Teacher

From a very young age, I grew up listening to my older sister play the violin and instantly fell in love with not only the look of the instrument, but also the sound it made. I often went around the house with a babydoll and a pencil pretending it was a violin. I would sing songs to imitate the sounds (I thought) a violin would make. When I was three and a half, I went to my sister’s violin recital, little did I know, that was the day I would receive my very first “violin”. The violin I got was a little piece of cardboard shaped like a violin, and printed on top of the cardboard were tiny strings, pegs, a bridge, and F holes. It also came with a wooden bow. It was my pride and joy! A couple years later, I finally started taking lessons at the Suzuki Violin Program at the University of Evansville and have been attending lessons ever since. It is my goal, to use my talents and gifts that I have been given to glorify the Lord in all I do.
As I teach, one of the methods I will be using, is the Suzuki method by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki.
The Suzuki Method combines a music teaching method with a philosophy, which is embraced around the development of the child. Dr Suzuki's guiding principle was, "Character first, ability second.” Dr Suzuki named his teaching method the Mother-Tongue Approach, inspired by the fact that children learn to speak their native tongue so effortlessly. Encouraged and prompted by the parents' love and family environment, the child responds and develops the skill of intelligible speech. As children learn to speak, you may notice how certain principles are at work: listening, repetition, motivation, step-by-step mastery, vocabulary, memory, parental involvement, and love. In the Suzuki approach, each of these principles are used in the learning of an instrument.
I believe just as Dr.Suzuki, that musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. My hope is to inspire and develop the love of learning in each of my students using the Suzuki method, as well as others. I look forward to working with your child
